To foster innovation and sustainable growth in local communities, the Taiwan Placemaking Alliance established the Placemaking Prize in 2021. This award recognizes outstanding teams that demonstrate excellence in regional revitalization and actively cultivates emerging talent across Taiwan’s towns and rural areas. By promoting collaborative, community-centered development, the initiative envisions a shared future where local vitality, national progress, and environmental sustainability are mutually reinforcing.

The Placemaking Prize Executive Committee shall include one Chairperson and one Vice Chairperson, and consist of five to seven members. The Committee is responsible for planning and assisting in the execution of the award selection process and related procedures. To maintain the independence of the Regional Revitalization Grand Prize judging process, committee members shall not directly participate in the selection of awardees.

About Registration

Q: Can I fill out the portfolio and registration form in my language?

We will do our best to assist with translation. Mandarin is the most convenient language for our review process, but we also welcome submissions in English and Japanese. If you would like to submit in another language, please contact us by email.

Q: For the International Placemaking Prize, is only foreign teams eligible to apply?

Yes,This year's International Placemaking Prize is exclusively open to foreign teams. It will be conducted in the form of a demonstration award, requiring only written submissions and no registration fee.

Q: Do I need to submit additional documents between the “Preliminary Review” and the “Final Review”?

Teams that are shortlisted after the initial screening can update their portfolios and submit them within the designated period given by the conference.

Q: Is the registration fee charged on a team basis?

Yes, regardless of the team size, the registration fee is charged per team.

NOTE:No registration fee is required for foreign teams this year.

Q: If the team wants to register for two awards, is the registration fee NT$ 2,000 ?

The registration fee for a team is NT$1,000 , and you can register for up to three awards. So whether you register for one, two, or three awards, it's all NT$1,000 !

Q:I noticed in the registration guidelines that the content of the portfolio must be related to activities that occurred between January 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025. If an activity was planned before March 31 but is still ongoing or has not yet been executed, can it still be included in the portfolio??

Yes, there is no hard and fast rule that the work can only be completed within this period. If it is an ongoing project or a project that is being implemented, you can still submit it for the competition. However, please note that the content between January 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025 will be the main basis for selection.

Q: How will the final selection be conducted?

The International Placemaking Prize will be evaluated based on the submitted materials only. No online interview will be conducted.

About portfolio

Q: If registering for different awards, do the submitted portfolios need to be different?

Yes. Each award should have a corresponding portfolio tailored to its focus.

Note: Only the International Placemaking Prize is open to teams based outside Taiwan.

Q:Is there any specific form of the portfolio for this prize?

Yes, The official version of the portfolio can be downloaded by clicking the bottom "Download File" above.

Q: Is there a page limit for the portfolio? If there are audio and video materials, how can they be presented?

The portfolio can be a maximum of 12 pages (including the cover page). Video materials should be embedded in the portfolio using cloud storage or YouTube links. For more detailed descriptions of the portfolio, please refer to the first page of the portfolio template.

Q: How do I pay the grand prize registration fee ?

No registration fee is required for International Placemaking Prize this year.

It is the highest honor of placemaking prize, and it's open to local teams to apply.

*Only the International Placemaking Prize is open to teams outside of Taiwan.

International Placemaking Prize

Recognizing overseas teams that embody the spirit of local revitalization, linking creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation with land, products, and people. Their founding achievements serve as benchmarks for other teams to learn from and emulate.

*The award open exclusively to overseas teams.No registration fee is required this year.

Taiwan Placemaking Prize

Teams embody the spirit of placemaking by connecting "people, place, and product" through "creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation." Their achievements serve as benchmarks for other teams.

Taiwan Placemaking Newcomer Award

Selects placemaking teams established within the last five years, demonstrating clear results and local impact. This award encourages new teams to embody the spirit of local dedication and continue deepening their local efforts.

Nantou Placemaking Award

Recognizes the development of sustainable industrial models rooted in local specialty industries, contributing to economic growth, job creation, and population retention while preserving local culture.

Eligibility: Open only to legal entities or registered companies based in Nantou.

Based on the diverse aspects of local creative development, we will create special awards and open registration to local teams.

Industrial Placemaking Award

Local In-depth Travel Award

Recognizes the creation of profitable industrial models based on local specialty industries, bringing economic benefits, job opportunities, and population advantages to the region while preserving local culture. *This award is only open to legal entities or companies.

Recognizes culturally rich travel itineraries that offer experiences of local ecology, customs, lifestyle, and bringing revenue or other added value to the region. *Travel plans must be executed on-site.

Local Space Revitalization Award

Using space revitalization as a tool, this award recognizes efforts that design diverse service functions to transform spaces into platforms for gathering local community power. These initiatives contribute to local social development and enhance the public value of space.

Placemaking Innovation Award

Recognizes the development of new placemaking business models and solutions through creativity to address local issues and challenges, responding to relevant social issues.

Local Specialty Award

Recognizes distinctive local products and souvenirs that showcase the characteristics of raw materials and local culture through packaging design and conceptual communication.

Placemaking Education Award

In response to the challenges of the current education system, this category recognizes those who adopt interdisciplinary approaches and collaborate with local communities to develop learning content rooted in real-life contexts. These efforts promote mutual growth between schools and local areas, nurturing participants as lifelong learners.

This category highlights innovative educational initiatives addressing local development issues. By mobilizing local community resources, these initiatives offer impactful solutions while establishing sustainable operational models that contribute to long-term local revitalization.

(for NPOs, educational enterprises, and placemaking organizations)

Selected by the judging panel, commendable individuals or teams are recommended. This category is not open for application.

Special Contribution Award

Outstanding individuals or groups who have supported local teams through long-term actions, spent money and effort, and made selfless contributions. Their specific contributions have been recognized or positively rewarded by the local community, and have had a profound impact on the local community.

Taiwan Buffalo Award

Recognizes individuals or teams that have long dedicated themselves to local areas with an indomitable spirit, like a buffalo, developing the region with practical actions and an optimistic attitude

Precautions

Taiwan Regional Revitalization Alliance reserves the right to review, delete and decide whether to publish all nomination materials if the registration team provides false information or commits illegal acts.
The organizer will review the selection process according to the announcement and reserve the right to adjust the selection process and award details. If there are major changes, the announcement will be made and the participating teams will be notified.
To enjoy the early bird discount, you must complete the purchase and payment of "Grand Prize Registration (Early Bird Discount Price)" before 23:59 on July 17 (based on system time) to enjoy the early bird discount price of NT$880.
Those who have paid the registration fee but have not submitted all the written review materials and portfolios before 23:59 on August 8 will be deemed to have failed to register, and a 5% handling fee will be deducted from the refund.
Applicants who have completed the registration (submitted the written review materials, portfolio, and registration fee) are not allowed to apply for a refund during the competition period, except in the event of force majeure (such as natural disasters or other force majeure events that prevent them from participating).

＊ The personal data obtained during registration will only be used by the Taiwan Regional Revitalization Alliance within the scope necessary for the event, and will not be provided to any third party. Please feel free to fill in the form.

Selection

The Alliance will first conduct a qualification review, and the Alliance members and external judges will form a preliminary jury. Experts and scholars from all walks of life will also be invited to form an external jury for the final review.
Eligibility review: Applicants will be evaluated based on online written forms, profile images and other materials. Those who meet the requirements will be submitted for formal review.
Preliminary review: The preliminary review will be conducted by professional members of the alliance and external judges in the form of an online meeting, and 3 shortlisted teams will be selected for each award.
Final review: External experts and scholars from various fields will be invited to conduct an online audition on 09/18 (Thursday) based on portfolio presentations (teams are required to send representatives to present). One team will be selected for each award.
